I didn’t cringe nearly as much as I thought I would. No, not because I disagreed with this President, but because let’s face it, love or hate either one, President Obama was one of our most eloquent speaking Presidents and President Trump in comparison is rather rough, grating and awkward at times. Just my opinion you don’t need to defend yours, just move along to the next paragraph. Here is the difference though. I watched President Obama because I wanted to decipher the way the eloquent speech would cover up the destructive policies that ate away at the core of the American Republic for 8 years, so I would know what was coming. Last night though… I cheered last night. I cheered for Our Republic; for a man that was not afraid to stand up and tell Us that it was OK to be proud, in fact it was OK to be an American. I cheered because once again, an American President challenged me to dream, to reach, to be the best that I can because this is America and that is possible if I work for it. Oh certainly we could put this down to cheap political promises and theatrics. But my 401K has jumped…I mean JUMPED more in the last 6 months than it moved in the last 6 years. I see in the news, MS13 groups being broken up and arrested. I sense at rallies a desire to be patriotic again. And I agree, we live in a global world but the need for Countries still exists and I want mine to be the best and the leader. “This, in fact, is our new American moment. There has never been a better time to start living the American Dream.” “We all share the same home, the same heart, the same destiny, and the same great American flag.” “Together, we are rediscovering the American way. In America, we know that faith and family, not government and bureaucracy, are the center of American life. The motto is, "In God We Trust."” “And we celebrate our police, our military, and our amazing veterans as heroes who deserve our total and unwavering support.” –President Donald Trump, State of the Union Address President Trump didn’t just cheer us on though; he inspired us with the guests such as Sung Ho (that man lifted those crutches like Mel Gibson lifting the American Flag in The Patriot) and Preston Sharp, the boy that put flags on Veteran’s graves for Veteran’s Day. He also brought home the real terror that still exists in the world as he told the stories of Evelyn, Elizabeth, Freddy and Robert and the loss of their little girls to the savages of MS13. Fred and Cindy Warmbier were also honored as President Trump spoke of the brutal treatment of Otto Warmbier at the hands of North Korea (I know there is an argument that he shouldn’t have been there in the 1st place and shouldn’t have taken the political poster in the 2nd) but it still does not justify the treatment. This is getting long, as you can see; I was very moved by the President’s speech last night. I was also excited by the changes he wants to make. Everything from lowering prescription drug prices to trying to reform prisons so that felons have a better chance to integrate into society to fixing the Countries aging infrastructure. But this is a story that is charged by the good ideas, the promise of Americanism, the chance to reach the American Dream and because of that, there must be a foil, a ‘bad guy’ if you will. That role was played last night and has been played by the Democratic Party. I was a lifelong registered Democrat (I didn’t always vote Democrat) until I was given a choice of Hillary Clinton or a Socialist. At that point I could no longer stomach the party of my youth. I was so proud not to be a member of that Party last night. If you have any doubt about what has destroyed the American Dream, it was front and center last night and I could write 20 more pages on how disgusting and hypocritical that Party is. But I know I am preaching to the choir. Instead I will say this; hold Our President’s toes to the fire even while you support him or don’t. Be proud to be an American and work for it. Condemn with the same hatred you reserve for Nazism and prejudice any ideas of socialism or communism. Those enemies do not rest and their only goal is to destroy the idea of Individual Freedom and the American Way. Keep your head on a swivel and stay safe -DeltaWhiskey
