10/14/17 - 1130hrs Daily report, California State Militia

* North Bay, San Francisco Bay Area – UPDATE – Right now firefighters are fighting a pick-up in wind with 20-40mph gusts. This has forced new evacuations in Sonoma County, Santa Rosa and Lake County. Firefighters have gained a small amount of ground with the North Bay fires. This is nowhere near over but containment has begun on some of the fires. That said, the Atlas fire is still pushing on American Canyon and many of the fires are still raging with only a small amount of containment. The change in temperature and hopefully drop in wind gusts should continue to aid firefighters. Multiple brush fires that erupted last Sunday night spread to massive quick moving firestorms including the 35,270 acre Tubbs Fire (44% contained). At least 35 people have been killed and hundreds are reported missing. Over 88,000 acres have been burned with the three largest fires includes the above mentioned Tubbs and the 50,383 acre Atlas fire (45% contained) as well as the Nuns fire at 46,104 acres (10% contained). At least 5700 buildings have been destroyed. Governor Brown has declared a State of emergency for Napa, Sonoma and Yuba Counties. If you want to volunteer, call the evacuation centers ahead of time and ask them when they need help. They will be happy to schedule your help. Be aware if you just show up you may be turned away as many places get large numbers of volunteers each day.
