09/21/17 - 0748hrs Daily report, California State Militia

* Caribbean Sea: Hurricane Maria made landfall on Puerto Rico as a Category 4 storm. It weakened briefly but has now strengthened to a Category 3 again as it goes out to sea. The storm has left Puerto Rico with literally no power; it has all been knocked out. So far 10 deaths have been reported. The level of destruction is hard to assess with the lack of power but early indicators are that the damage is severe. President Trump moved quickly to approve a disaster declaration for Puerto Rico. It is one of the strongest storms to hit in generations. Winds of 155mph are expected for 12-24hrs. The current predictions show that Maria is not a threat to the US mainland, turning north 100s of miles from the eastern coast. * Mexico – UPDATE – Crews are rescuing survivors from crumpled buildings. Currently one of the main focuses is on a school building that disintegrated and attempting to rescue a 12 yr old girl. 11 other children have been rescued from the school. So far over 50 survivors have been pulled from underneath the rubble of various buildings. The death toll has passed 237 with 1900 injured and will likely climb higher. The devastation from the 7.1 earthquake that hit Mexico yesterday is only starting to come in. Crews are racing to go through rubble and debris in hopes of rescuing survivors. Images of explosions and collapsing buildings have continued to emerge signaling that we still don’t have a full picture of the disaster that struck Mexico. Our thoughts and prayers are with the first responders, the families and people of Mexico. * UC Berkeley, Free Speech week – The event will be held from Sunday, Sept 24 through Wednesday September 27th. It now appears that all speeches will be held outside in Sproul Plaza with over 20 speakers. Groups such as BAMN and Antifa will likely be there in full force. Expect the area to be near chaotic for most of next week. -Warnings/ Advisories * Winter Weather Advisory: West Slope Northern Sierra Nevada * Frost Advisory: Northeastern Mendocino Interior; Northern Trinity; Northwestern Mendocino Interior; Southern Trinity, Modoc County; Northeast Siskiyou and Northwest Modoc Counties, Modoc County; Northeast Siskiyou and Northwest Modoc Counties. * Wind Advisory: San Luis Obispo County Central Coast; Santa Barbara County Central Coast, Antelope Valley, Santa Barbara County Mountains; Santa Barbara County South Coast, Eastern Sierra Slopes of Inyo County, Eastern Mojave Desert, Including the Mojave National Preserve; Western Mojave Desert, Morongo Basin, Apple and Lucerne Valleys; Coachella Valley; Riverside County Mountains; San Bernardino County Mountains; San Diego County Deserts; San Diego County Mountains; San Gorgonio Pass Near Banning, Chiriaco Summit; Imperial County Southwest; Imperial County West; Imperial Valley; Joshua Tree NP East; Joshua Tree NP West; Salton Sea, Chuckwalla Mountains; Imperial County Southeast, Southwestern San Joaquin Valley; West-Central San Joaquin Valley * High Wind Warning: Indian Wells Valley; Kern County Mountains; Southeastern Kern County Desert Air Quality Alert: San Luis Obispo County Central Coast; San Luis Obispo County Interior Valleys; San Luis Obispo County Mountains -Weather (South Bay/ San Jose) * Sunrise - 0655hrs.
