In that I mean that whatever the facts are they are going to be squashed down to fit the narrative – “The Right is made up of Racist, Nazi, White Supremacists.” I was not there so like most of you, I have to rely on video and news media. Yes, it looked like there was a very large contingent of klansmen and nazis. Having been a part of one of the ‘Battles for Berkeley’ I can tell you that if 15 people out of 400 have some type of “White Supremacist markings or make a movement anywhere close to a nazi salute…they will receive all of the attention. I wasn’t there in Virginia, so I didn’t see with my own eyes. But as I said above, all of the Free Speech rallies in Berkeley and even Sacramento and other parts of California, Seattle, Washington and other places here on the West Coast had to fight the narrative of being racist. Why? That is the “party line” that is being pushed by one political group in this country and is the easiest way to create silence and diminish support for the belief of Freedom of Speech. Many III%er groups as well as Militia’s condemned what happened yesterday. I will add my own (not CSM’s statement, because I do not hold rank to speak for the State) condemnation of the violence to that list. I will also say prayers for the loss of the lives of Heather Heyer, and Troopers H. Jay Cullen and Berke M.M. Bates. What I won’t do is place all blame on the hate groups. As I said yesterday, the Conservative Right, the Constitutionalists and Libertarians all need to move away and shun hate groups. I despise the following: Nazis, KKK, White Supremacists, Communists, Socialists and Anarchists. I will always work to educate people and move them away from those groups. But, if I truly believe in Our Constitution, they must be allowed to express themselves. The Freedom of Speech is not there to protect the ideas we all want to hear. It is there to protect the ideas that we hate. That is the double edged sword of Liberty. It also makes sure that We citizens and Our Government don’t take on the job of deciding what thoughts and beliefs are OK. Do you know what happens when people and groups decide they are going to suppress Free Speech? We have been seeing it for the last couple of years now. This was not President Trump’s fault. I actually agree with him placing blame across the spectrum of groups attending. I don’t care how much you disagree with a group, if your tool is to suppress someone else’s beliefs or their march by actively engaging them and trying to stop them through screaming, bear spray, physical intimidation ect…you are guilty. Think before what happened when the klan or a neo-nazi group would march. We (the majority made up of different colors, beliefs, sexes, religions) would collectively shake Our heads in sadness. We would think to ourselves, ‘I cannot let my children grow up to believe like that.’ We would educate and discuss and in general be on the same page. That is how we have kept those racist and extremist beliefs to a minimum in this Country. It doesn’t mean we don’t show up, it doesn’t mean we can’t be along the roadside with a sign or to turn our backs in mass to these hate groups. It does not mean we cannot work to educate people to the evil of these groups. It does mean if we suppress others…we remove the protection that prevents a group from suppressing us in the future.
